About the WeTheNorth Official Register

This site does one job. It publishes the verified WeTheNorth onion, the fingerprint that signs it, and an honest read on whether it answers. It does not run the market, take orders, or hold anyone's coin. This page explains what official means here, how an address earns a place on the list, and the limits we keep in the open rather than hiding.

Canon pointerEverything described here is visible on the canon. The address, the register, and the key are not stored on this page. This is the reasoning behind them.hn2paw7hljeihrk7qm2toniay5bb4cfz46cav5iywnsv64klm45mypqd.onion
How it worksthree stages

How the register stays honest

An address does not appear on the list because someone posted it. It moves through the same three stages every time, and each stage can stop it. Only what clears all three gets published, and it gets published with the state we actually measured.

Register pipeline: each candidate address is probed over Tor, signed with the canon key once it checks out, and only then published with the honest state it returned.Probeover TorSigncanon keyPublishhonest state
Probe over TorWe reach the candidate the same way you would, through Tor, and record what it actually returns.
Sign with the keyAn address that checks out is written into a signed register, so you can prove the list came from us.
Publish the true stateIt goes live with the state we measured, whether that reads checking or dead. Never a painted green light.
Meaning

What official means here, and what it does not

Official means one thing on this site. The address is the one a PGP-signed register names, checked against a key you can hold yourself. It does not mean endorsed, blessed, or run by anyone in particular. It means provable. You do not have to take our word, you can verify the signature.

It also does not mean safe on its own. An official address can be down, and a working address can still be a clone until the signature proves otherwise. Official is a claim about provenance, nothing more. Read it that way and it stays useful.

Method

How an address earns a place on the list

The bar is deliberately narrow. An address has to answer over Tor when we probe it, and it has to sit inside a register signed by the canon key. Anything we cannot verify stays off, even if a dozen forums swear by it. A loud reputation is not evidence.

When something changes, the list changes with it, not our story about it. A mirror that stops answering gets marked dead, not quietly dropped. A date moves only when we actually rechecked. The register should match reality, not the other way around.

Restraint

Why one verified onion, not a wall of links

A long list looks reassuring and is usually the opposite. Every extra address is another thing to verify and another place a clone can hide. We would rather publish one link we have checked than twenty we have not. When a second mirror is genuinely signed, it appears, and not a moment before.

Honest limits

The limits we keep in plain sight

We cannot promise a mirror is up the second you read this. Availability shifts through the day, which is why the status reads as a probe and not a guarantee. We never see your account, your messages, or your escrow, and we would not want to.

The signing key is not published yet. Until Phase 0 puts it out, the fingerprint reads pending, and the honest fallback is a careful character compare. We would rather say that plainly than dress up a check we cannot yet offer.

Questions about this site

Do you run WeTheNorth?

No. We publish a reference to its verified onion and nothing else. The market, the accounts, and the escrow are entirely separate from this page.

Why does the status almost never say online?

Because we only publish states we measured, and a mirror over Tor is often between states. Checking means unknown right now, which is the honest answer more often than a flat online would be.

When will the PGP key be available?

In Phase 0. Until then the fingerprint is marked pending on every page, and the strongest check available is a full compare of the address against the canon.
